Brain, Mind & Soul: The Hard Problem of the Measurement
Abstract
The aim of the paper, in form of a dialogue, is to discuss the problem of the fracture between the reduction of brain phenomena to quantitative measure and the quality of individual feeling. If mathematical models that could make the unrepeatable forms of individual feeling measurable, therefore public, capable of going further the simple neuroanatomical mapping, then a huge problem of individual and public ethics would arise. In other words, there might be a risk of full control on our lives, on our intimacy: Foucaultian biopolitics and bio power could become even more pervasive.
